You’re As Rich as you Think

Today I met someone who told me I was rich. As usual I responded “One day I will be” and instead of the usual nod,he said “No you are rich. You’re rich in spirit”. I hadn’t thought about it before but those few words made me realize the value of all the people and things in my life right now.

Friends, family, food for the day and just the fact that we woke up this morning are all indications of the many blessings bestowed upon us. Every day of life is another chance to pursue or create the opportunities you dream of.  So yes after this conversation I now have a new appreciation for all that I have at this moment. While I work towards what I want, I’ll now make it my duty to be thankful for where I am and hope you are able to do the same.

Take nothing for granted in this life. Be blessed!

Where to on the Crossroads?

Tonight’s yet another night where I should be completing my assignments so I can get some sleep. Instead I sit here suffering from a case of wandering mind. Its now just about 3 months until I turn 24 and just about 7 months until I complete my undergraduate degree.

While this is an exciting time in my life just thinking of what comes next in my journey, its also a scary time for the very same reason…I have no clue what comes next.

Quite often I admire other 24 year olds who’ve already started their own businesses, perhaps even started a family and my mind begins its journey into the wild. Always great watching those people who’ve followed their childhood dreams and kept focused all the days of their lives. Then there’s people like me who want to do a million and one things yet can’t decide on a single one.

I’m currently studying IT Management but do I want to become an IT Manager is a whole other question to ask. As I’ve been told your undergrad degree does not determine what you do with the rest of your life and while I do believe that I also wonder where the heck I’m supposed to start.

Some days I think about teaching again, perhaps getting a Teaching Certificate or Masters in Education. I’ve even thought about getting my Project Management Professional (PMP) certification. Other days I think of doing Early Childhood education since I do have a great love for children and other days I just want to travel and discover the rest of the world. Then there’s also my passion for photography which reappears every now and then.

The most I know is that I want to do something meaningful and enjoyable and something that makes a positive impact on the lives of others. If I have to wake up every day and build a career, I want to be happy doing so. Will I get some grand idea and start my own business? Be my own boss? A consultant? Teacher? Mentor? Who knows?

Then again I suppose I can be all of the above. The sky’s the limit right?

This is the point where all I can do is my best and trust that the rest will fall into place. Trust that I will see the great signs and pray that the doors of opportunity open.

We’re all advised to follow our dreams but what if you don’t know what they are? Or maybe you do know but deny yourself.

Now that I’ve cleared my mind, I can probably get back to finishing my assignment which still awaits. A few weeks from now I’ll probably laugh at myself for even worrying when things do work out but til’ then here ends my ramblings of a confused, yet optimistic soul.

Say No To Insanity

While Greenday waited for the end of September to rise from their slumber, sleep was slowly becoming a mere figment of my imagination.
The past month was quite a challenging one (Actually more like a month of insanity) as I realized that working 2 jobs while taking 6 final year classes was no easy task. I kept telling myself that other people can handle it so maybe I just need to toughen up and do what I must. By the last week I realized that it really does NOT matter what other people do. My superwoman cape needed a break.
Sometimes we just need to learn our limits and know when to stop. Thanks to my supervisor this past week for realizing that I was not my usual happy, bubbly self and took some time to find out what was affecting me. After my chat with him, I realized that something had to be changed. As it stands I’ve already eliminated a few things that hindered my productivity and it already feels great to have my sanity back.
Out of all the madness I did manage to take away a few lessons which will hopefully be of some use to you too:
1.  Know your limits
2. Know when to step back and analyze your situation
3. If you’re not happy about something in your life, then take action to make a change. Surely no one else will do it for you.
With that said, I wish you a fabulous October. If you’re in the tropics, don’t take your warmth and sunshine for granted and for those of us who’ve been thrown straight into winter, happy cuddly days to you :) .
October here I come!

Hello September!

September is here once again and for those of us who are students, that means its time to get back to the school grind. Every year I promise myself to change a million and one things but have yet to stick to the plan. This year I think I will just take it one day at a time, one step at a time. Yes we all need to have goals and a plan but its also the choices made each day that make a difference in the end. This time around, I’m actually going to get help from a school adviser so that I make the most efficient use of my time by way of weekly planning ahead of time. With 6 classes this fall, one campus job, one off-campus job and an executive position with one of the student groups I’ll be needing some miracles from the good Lord above but trust that I will manage to get it all done some way.

To all my fellow students, good luck as you begin a new month and a new semester and to all of you remember that the choices made each day have a ripple effect and affect the overall outcome of your life so choose wisely.

My quote for the month comes from my favourite Dr. Seuss book “Oh, the Places you’ll go”

You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose.

This post is dedicated to my friend Shani who always pesters(encourages) me to post when I fall behind. Check out her blogs at s http://empress-v.blogspot.com and http://redempressvee.blogspot.com.

New Discovery… Reggae Artist Zoe

Last night I discovered this song called ‘Could It Be You’ by Zoe and Kymani Marley. I hadn’t heard of her previously but it turns out that this talented soul was actually born in Liberia and raised in Germany which is not typical of most reggae singers that I know. She’s now added to my list of artists with meaningful lyrics.

Also check out Unconditional Love by Gentleman who hails from Germany and happens to be one of my favourites.

My Blessings

When I count my blessings, my friends are surely at the top of my list and I’m thankful that throughout my life I’ve been blessed with long- lasting and trouble free friendships wherever I go. Three or four hour long talks with the bestie really make me appreciate the joy of friendship.  Whether I call just to talk about my day or to seek words of wisdom, there is always one that I can count on and though many of us are in different countries now, we still try our best to show support however best we can.

Tonight I consider myself fortunate and hope that I am able to be a great friend in return.

Life Outside the Zone

“2011…Evolution of Esi” is my motto for this year. For me it means a time of personal growth and seeking new endeavours all in the name of my ‘Evolution’. The past two weeks at school were two of the most exciting of my entire academic career. With the initial boost of one of my friends and the support of many, I decided to be a candidate for VP Engagement and Outreach for my school’s commerce society. This move definitely forced me out of my comfort zone as I hadn’t previously been one to campaign for anything. In the space of a week, I got posters and flyers designed and printed and spoke to more people in an entire day than most do in a week. Even that was quite an experience as I’ve learnt that some people are willing to give a listening ear, others aren’t and in the end you just become a stronger individual for reaching out. The election results were finally revealed a few hours after the polls were closed and I did not win but still feel like a champion. I am truly happy for the triumphant one and look forward to working with him and the rest of the team but from an even greater perspective, this election has had an impact on my whole outlook. I now have more courage than I did one week ago. I now know that we all have the ability to stretch beyond what we are used to even when the little voice inside says no. What if we listened to the voice which reminds us that we are capable of achieving our goals? How much further would we be in life? How much more would we all actually LIVE?  Now I’m ready to take on the next challenge, ready for the next campaign, ready to climb the next mountain. Life outside the comfort zone is where I want to be.

Til’ the next time I feel inspired to write, keep the PositiveVibez alive.

Saritz
